Measured on site, made to fit
Houses are rarely square, so built-in work is measured on site and made to fit the space instead of being bought off the shelf and forced in. It is the small gaps, uneven edges and misaligned doors that make a job look rushed.
A bay window seat is a good example: a built-in bench with hidden storage, made to fit the bay.
